How to distinguish a euro spec model

I am getting a 1983 300d tomorrow. It has a 4 speed manual trans and the owner claims it is a european model. It doesn't have the euro headlights and i've done some searching but cant really find what im looking for. Is it true that the manual transmissions are european only? Just looking for some insight. Thanks

If it's a 1983, the #1 thing to look at is the engine. If it's a non-turbo and untouched from the factory, it's a Euro. All Euro spec W123 300Ds were non-turbo.

Also look at the VIN. If it begins with WDB123130... instead of WDBAB30..., you have a Euro.

Euros don't usually command much a difference over their US spec counterparts unless the Euro is an AMG tuned model or has a 5 speed transmission.

Must have been a very early adaptive suspension. *selects sport mode and pushes all 80 HP through the apex of the curve*

That's right, all 300CDs were for the North American market. There's no such thing as a 300CD Euro. Perhaps he meant European delivery?
