front coil spring removal question

So I am trying to remove my front coil springs, as I am trying to loosen the top mounting suspension nuts in the engine compartment the center rod turns, I cannot seem to keep the center rod still while turning the nuts, I need help holding the center rod still any suggestions?

Total noob soon to be expert.

You may need a spring compressor. Good luck they are expensive. But there are 'klone' versions out there

Are you removing the shocks or the springs? You need the Klann type spring compressor to compress and remove the springs.

Shocks are different. If you are replacing them, you can use vice grips to hold the center rod to remove the nut and bushings.

6mm wrench should slip on the flat parts of the shock.

Just clamp a big vice grip on the shiny part exposed in the spring. But don't use the vice grip when you install the new shock.

Since it is most likely the Shock Absorbers you are speaking of you will not need a Spring Compressor.
But, I thought I would speak of compressing the Front Sprints. The Frong Springs must be at the lease 3 times stronger than the ones on the Springs on the Rear.
The Generic Spring compressores that are sold in the US are too weak.

You can look on eBay and you will see the copies and some times the Real Klann Spring Compressore that is best to do the job.

If you were in the US the PeachParts forum has a tool rental program. In New Zealand maybe you guys need to form a club so that tools can be shared.
