Turn Signals Stopped Working

So, I am a new owner of a 1982 300D Turbo. I hace no mechanical bone in my body, but this forum has been a great help so far in diagnosing the problems I bought with the car, i.e., fuel gauge does not work, nor does the tachometer.

But the other my turn signals stopped working. The weird thing is the parking lights still work, so it is not a bulb issue. All the functions on the little black thing located on the steering column seem to work like the regualar beams and high beams.

Does anyone have an idea of where to start diagnosing the problem?

Do your flashers work?
If not sounds like you need a new relay, close behind the flasher switch.

fuse. for whatever reason, those crazy german electricians found it to be a good idea to put random things together on different fuses. a low beam with a window, the high beam with hazards. i would replace which ever fuse it is for the turn signals.

fuse box is a small cover held on with two nobs, on the drivers side right up against the fire wall. could make for a really easy fix. (or it could be like high beam on my passenger side and keep blowing out... erg.)

It is not uncommon for the flasher switch on the console to get positioned between on and off. Exercising that switch a couple of times and making sure it is in the off position will often fix it.

Hi
If your car is like my 1985 300td, the turn signals depend on the red flasher in the center console to work. If the flashers are working - sometimes just turning them on and off a few times will make the turn signals start working again. If the flashers are not working you can can take the flasher switch out - take it apart and clean it (Mercedes switches are great about this) - or just buy another for around $20.
Good Luck,
Joseph

Ya, that red button for the hazards does not work either.

So ya'lls solution in no particular order is:

1. Take the red button out and clean it.
2. Check the fuse box under the hood
3. Relay

Now if 1 & 2 do not work, where do I find the relay on the car?

By the way, I really f*%$ing love this car. I also have a 2003 GMC Sonoma, and since I got my Benz, that poor thing has been sitting idle. But I get 400 miles per tank of fuel with the Benz as the Sonoma I only get 305. They both have the same size fuel tank.....WooHooo

The relay should be in close proximity to the red switch in the center console.

Almost certain it's the relay, if even the 4 ways don't work.

HOLY RED BUTTONS BAT MAN!!! I left work around 5:30, let the "Tank" warm up for a minute, rocked the little red button a couple of times, and BLAM!! My turn signal worked!

Ya'll are the best virtual auto-mech's a friend could have.

I think I will go ahead and remove the little red button and clean it as mentioned in a prior post. The hazards do not work, so maybe it is the red button.

Since the passenger side windows do not work either, maybe I will begin trouble shooting those too from the switch.

Thanks again,

Scott
