Getting a new starter, which brands have you liked?
Hi,
I just pulled my starter, it's sitting on the floor of my garage.
I am inclined to take it down to a local shop that has rebuilt other stuff for me and have them rebuild it.
But, I am also browsing the major online parts stores. They never post details about their starters, just a part number and price.
Where can I find objective specs or reviews to compare brands? Which ones are better, or maybe it doesn't matter.
Have you had great (or terrible) experience with one manufacturers starter over another?

I would use a original Bosch one, rebuilt of course.

It's not so much one brand preference over another, as the rebuild quality that counts.

Can't my local shop do as good a job rebuilding the original bosch starter, can't their be as good or better than the online stores selling remanufactured bosch starters?
I should also add, car has at least 250,000 and it's kind of rough, but I am saving up parts and cash to buy a much nicer 123 next year, so I will have this starter for a long time.

Autozone is nice as they offer lifetime replacement. So I go with them on alternators, and starters. Most likely they are rebuilt in india or china by people making $5.00 a day. Sometimes you get one where they earned their money and it actually works for years.

I decided I'm just going with my local rebuilder. All the other options are in the same price range $100 - $130, but I've had good luck with the local rebuilder so far. The autozone idea would be my 2nd choice, cuz at least I can work with a local store.
Still I think it's kind of wierd that the main online auto parts stores list similar looking parts with no explanation as to why one is priced more than the other.

Not sure if you have already had your starter rebuilt, or purchased a rebuilt one, but I bought one from Kragen, with a lifetime warranty, for about $65 or so, has been working just fine for months now

Personally I go by the PITA factor. On the turbo, the starter is a PITA to remove. Just how many AutoZoo type do you want to replace?
Since just about all parts for our cars are re-builds now, It is hard to choose one that had a good longevity reputation, along with warrany.
