W123 interior

Why does the leather (or MBTex) always look like it is stretched or like it has ripples in it? ...especially on the doors and the window area of the door where the leather looks loose/rippled/wrinkled.

wrinkled, rippled etc. (see the part by the window.)

tight and straight. (see the part by the window.)

When it's parked too long in the sun, exposed to the heat that shrinks those door window frame covers or whatever they're called, that's what happens. Those become brittle with age, and mind you these are 20+ year old cars. If these have been kept garaged, chances are those covers will not shrink and shrivel up like those in your pics.

I think you can get them brand new from the dealer but it'll be really costly just for those. I don't recall the prices off hand though.

Both of my front doors had the ripple effect, so I pulled off the trim and there was exterior quality paint underneath. I can't really tell the trim is missing when the doors are closed and it looks a lot nicer when the door is open and I don't have to look at the warped trim.

I'm glad to report that my interior has none of those ripples.

I think sun and heat would be the main culprits here.
