ok thought i would update this thread since it already has some info on my car and some before photos, although not great.
the rust is slowly disappearing, and here are some after photos
passenger side shock tower (fender is off the car if it looks strange to some people) thank you classic center
this whole gray section you see was cut out and patched
same location, more work done
this is a pic to show the size of the patch needed to cut out the rust, this is underneath the passenger shock support. i believe this is 3M seam sealer you are seeing.
new headlight support is welded in and primed, all damage is fixed
still to come:
passenger side floor area, hey did you feel a breeze? this is right in front of the blower motor, that is the hose for the ac
and yes the infamous new england battery tray surprise( this is where the rust started and as the water sat it rusted downward and made the hole you see in the pic before this)
i only have photos of the passenger side shock area but the drivers was also patched and repaired
if you want more carnage and sadness just ask, i have about a gig of it
its got less rust than yours but the first guy who repaired this really had some bad ideas, maybe it was his first repair
i forgot to take a pic of the pile of silicone used to fill the gap the rust made underneath the battery tray. he ended up plugging the main hood hinge drain.

thanks guys, started redoing the brakes last weekend because they went to the floor as i was moving it in the garage, i disassembled everything and tackled rebuilding the calipers, attaching the front rotors to the hubs, new parking brake shoes and flex hoses so far. should be off the jack stands this weekend, harbor freight sent me the wrong item, gave me a dial indicator but forgot the magnetic base.
starting to come together the color was sprayed today but i will wait to take final pics until the tape is removed, i really should have taken everything out instead of move it around but there's always next year. the color came out amazing its going to look way too nice next to the 1980 enamel.
