My 280CE

Hey Everyone,

I just bought a black 1979 280CE with cream MDex interior and have a couple of queries about the cars. Would love to speak to other enthusiasts with close or same year model 280CE's.
Post pictures and lets bring the 280CE's back!
I want to know any problems people have had with them and what they love about them.
I bought my car for $7.500 after getting it down from $9.000 which I am very happy about as everyone loves it and would much rather it than some hyandai.

Christian J Robertson.

You should introduce yourself on the W123 forum. There are a lot of 280CE owners there.

Beautiful. The 1979 photo car in the U.S. catalog was black.

Black on tan - that's one nice-looking car.

Hey all. love the feedback. keep it coming. 79 mercy, where did you get the hubcaps from? I really want to put the same hubcaps on with white wall tires except black to suit my car ofcourse. I have also put a sound system in my merc which also sets it off. spent about 5 hours cleaning the engine today. looks really good. will post pictures on the net when I upload them.

1979 280ce

Beautiful car! I also own a 1979 280CE I believe that year is the first year that car was in production, that model and body style ran through 1985. Never had one problem with the engine after tuneup. When I first purchased the vehical the engine would occasionally miss but I traced that problem back to a falty fuel filter. I am going to either replace or have the rear differential rebuilt before long but the car is old and wear and tear take a tole. I believe this to be one of the most aesthetic cars ever produced by Mercedes and hope they are around for a long time to come. GOOD LUCK!

Hi Christian,

Congrats for your new car. I have a 280 CE from 82 and quite happy with it.
Bought it some 5 months ago.

Is the paint of your car original? never saw that shade before on a 123.
It seems that the front sits too proud. I like it lower in the front.

Enjoy

Love these cars. My friend in High School had one the same sable brown color as my XJ6 at the time. We used to pose our cars together for photos. The biggest difference between her car and mine was that my Jag was usually waiting in the garage for a part to come in or on the side of the road somewhere waiting for a tow. I don't remember her car needing anything for the entire time she had it and sadly she eventually sold it for $1,000 to a dealership that painted it black even tho the paint was perfect, just "not what buyer's are looking for". Sad, but a great car that probably lit the Benz fuse within me.
