I'm running my 1983 300TD on WVO. Today never got above zero degrees Farenheit. The car sat outside all day and started right up, but it took me 10 miles to switch over and the inside of the car hardly got warm. I have most of the radiator covered. I have searched for a hotter thermostat than the factory 80 degree C, have not been able to find one. Does anyone know if another thermostat will fit and get me a higher temp? Thanks!
Arne.

The temp gauge runs a little above 80 when the car is warmed up. The cardboard does help, but it would be nice to get up to temp sooner. I don't like to switch until the engine is at operating temp. Even though it's been a warm winter I end up using more dino than I want to.
How old is this thermostat? I think its not closing fully. You should get to 80 c in about 2 miles, not 10. Simple to remove and verify its completely closed cold.
My 280ce runs almost to the 100c. line. It would run just a touch above 80c. a long time ago before I started to have trouble with it running hot. Is it okay to run just just alittle under 100c. In hot weather in traffic it will go just alittle above 100c. Is this normal or is there something still wrong with the cooling system?

100 C is within spec, its not running "hot" its running a little warm. Wouldn't hurt to replace the radiator cap. Could be weak lowering the boiling point. Being a gas car , I would verify timing at spec, could be slightly retarded which might raise engine temp.
The T-Stat I bought at NAPA is the 90 degree C one. I am planning on getting the 80 degree fail safe one, though. The PO, or his ham fisted mechanic left the T-Stat out of my car. I did not notice this until cooler weather hit, and the car would not warm up past 60 degrees C.
