NPR story on MB Diesels (mostly 123s) and WVO/SVO

Listen to this story

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=5539849

check out the cars here

http://www.lovecraftbiofuels.com/testimonials.php

He sells modified cars for $6-8k!!

One woman decribed her car as "flinstone-ish"

I'm not sure why they told the story quite the way they did, it seems like they are almost suggesting it's not a diesel anymore...like it's got a new engine or something. But the way I understand it is he's just got a new pump to help move the oil along.

They interviewed him did they? I talked to the guy in person and apparently as I later found out that he has somewhat of a polarized mood disorder. I went there and I was getting the impression it was a "give me your money and leave your car for 24 hours have a nice day". I asked him reasonable questions like how does your system differ from other cars. I got "it's a single tank system". It's not like was asking how to operate a soda can just asking him WHY I should just give him $700 bucks and my car to mess with. I went to one of their other locations in a dumpy location by the 5 freeway and it looked like a jukyard. I talked to the guys who barely spoke english and there was 55 gallon drums of grease and car parts in the dirt floored shop.

Short of it is. He swears that the system is fine even though the engine ALWAYS starts on cold oil with no preheating feature which is an excellent setup for ALL the cars to have burned out IP's in a few years. I find that highly suspicious. Customers have not had any problems and owners go into the mountains in the cold etc. etc. etc. He is a tattoo artist after all.

My best guess for the setup since he kinda blurted out responses is:

1. Rear lift pump
2. Davco 234? heat exchanger
3. IP tweaking

I talked to the guy also and he seemed too busy to give me the attention I wanted. I know he's busy and everyone asks the same questions over and over which is frustrating. My concern is the long-term effects of running our engines even at optimal temperatures on WVO. I want my engine which is only a mere 70 miles away from rolling over to 240,000 to make it to half a million. I already mix just a little fresh soybean in with either bio-diesel or petro-diesel. It's very tempting but I fear a backlash 2-10 years from now of this guys cars failing. Then again, if filtered properly and its the good stuff, maybe it is actually good for these engines?

There is no real way to tell, I guess, except to wait until one of the engines in his fleet fail due to the abovementioned "symptoms" of veggie conversions.

Precisely, look at what happened to wer1's 77 300D and dieseloilconversions that sold him a $9,000 car that depreciated 95% in about 10 seconds......do you think they'd take responsibility for it? Remember, they too peddle oil conversions as well!

People with money can just buy gas without batting an eye. The people that are buying these are planning to save money in the long run. When somoene invests a lot of funds into a car that is supposed to work like new and there IS no warranty there are going to be a lot of PO'ed people with the IP's start failing and the installers will just say......"sorry".
