i found karugs info on the throttle adjustment with a 10mm very helpful, but in making that adjustment i have found 2 serious problems.
first: the bushing that holds the end of the linkage and holds the throttle cable is completely deteriorated. has anyone tried to rebuild one of these? is it possible to buy just that bushing.
second: there is sort of a slider that is fixed to a few other on top of the engine...closest part to the firewall...this piece has a male "rod" that slides back and forth when the throttle is moves...almost along a track. mine is shot and has a ton of play in it....is there a fix for this...i think this is the root to my acceleration problem. when it stops raining i will try and take some pics
i think that the throttle is close to coming apart due to both these problems....which would obviously not be good...so i would like to at least make a fix so i can drive with some peace in mind.
thanks...this forum is so great....i have learned so much in the past few months!
the part that i am talking about in the second problem is the last part of the throttle linkage that you can see at the top of the picture you posted. if you follow the manual engine stop "lever" upwards its the last assembly you see. the slotted piece is ok, but the finger that slides/rides in it when you increase the throttle is worn out...so much play that it gets pushed 20-40degrees before it begins to engage in the slide....im not sure if that makes sense....im worried that it will brake off and get jammed and then the throttle will be stuck in an engaged position and i will have to hit that red eject button between the window switches.
i am going to try and take it apart and come up with a solution.
karugs-if only either one of my 300D's engine bays looked as clean as yours i would be a happy man.
Are you talking about the bowden cable? That's the cable with a steel wire inside a vinyl sheath (Karugs has the red flexy rubber covering, but most have black). That cable effects your transmission shift timing (higher or lower RPM's before shift).
If it's frayed, you will want to replace it. But, if it's just loose, you can turn the threaded plastic portion and it will give more or less tension.

not quite.......its diagnally (northwest in the pic) of that transmission cable. there is a slottlet flat plate that has a nother part of the linkage that slides down the slot/guide. i took it apart and jammed a piece of sheet metal underneath it to take out the play/slop. i think a c-clip will work the best but i dont have any that will fit at home.
but maybe everybody checks out all the linkage all the time...but if you have a ton of slop in the throttle linkage and have already used karugs special 10mm adjustment you might want to look at these two places...i have 252k miles and both places are close to failing.
now even though the previous owner had all these service records his machanic failed to see any of this....im sure its been this way for some time....scary stuff...i can only imagine what else is lurking beneath the surface.
thanks for all the help!
i wouldnt mind finding out what the part of the throttle linkage that i fixed is called so i can try ordering a new part or two!
