83' 300D Transmission

My 83' 300D with 169,000 miles up to recently usually would shift from 2nd to 3rd at 3000 RPM. Now it is winding out and shifting between 4,000 and 4,500 RPM. Is this basically an adjustment or modulator valve problem, or signs of a major transmission problem?

Anyone know of a good transmission tech in the NY, NJ area?

If it's just the 2-3 shift, it could be the K1 spring. Easy fix, really.

Thanks for the quick reply and the suggestion. The pictures are a big help. This site is best I've found so far for getting practical suggestions and recommendations. I will let you know how things go.

Its not that difficult a job...just do it with clean hands. You don't want crud inside the transmission.

With the part number (#126 270 44 77), you should be able to order the kit from most places like Fastlane or Schuman automotive. Or, you can stop by the dealer and get a kit for $10-$15. Might want to call ahead if the dealership is out of town, though.
