I'm replace the fuel hose coming from the fuel tank as well as the screen. I got the hose off ok, but can't for the life of me unscrew the screen. Any technique people use to get it off??
Since I'm taking this off would people suggest taking the whole tank out and cleaning it? With the tank out I'm sure I could get the filter off...but I doubt that's the 'normal' technique for screen removal.
Yea, I was looking for another option. I looked into buying the socket and wrench, so I don't have either, and it was something like $100 at sears. So, I was looking to see of there was another option.
OK. Well, sounds like buying a 43mm socket is the consensus. Will I ever use this socket, or socket wrench for anything is, besides playing croquet with the wrench?
How do you guys prevent the fuel from dripping once you get the screen out? I mean is there a screw you could temporarily screw onto the tank while you're cleaning out the screen?
I ended up buying the socket and I got out the screen!
When I took off the hose that attached to the screen I first clamped it off, then unscrewed it from the fuel line, put that end of the hose in a 5 gallon bucket bucket, and then unclamped the hose and watched the magic happen. One thing I discovered is if you raise the hose up it releases air, and then flows more.
So, for me I got almost the fuel out, and then when I unscrewed the screen I just had the bucket underneath, along with some newspaper, and all was good.
I got lucky, my screen came out with the hose. I did have to heat up the threads to get the old hose off the screen, but that was easy on the workbench. BTW, my screen turned out to be spotless.
