In 1980, I bought a new wagon from MB Manhattan with the designation "300TD". Yet the car is not a turbo-diesel. What does the "T" designate in this model? I believe the turbo was not introduced in the US until 1982 or 1983.

T is for "touring" meaning wagon or estate. A 1980 300TD is not turbocharged because the turbocharged versions appeared in 1981 (late 1981) like mine.

You're right that the turbo was not introduced in the US until 82 to 83, however this only applies to sedans, not wagons.[:)]

I also have a non-turbo 1980 wagon that was bought at Mercedes Manhattan.

Believe it or not I kinda like the non-turbo's better, the performance off the line is a little better IMO, no turbo lag to deal with and less moving parts to break...
