8,000 mile 240D

Without going into the long story. I saw one in the parking lot. I talked to the older woman who was neat and well dressed and very polite. I asked her how many miles on her car and she replied, "not many"
She explained her brother had it in VA and she has it now. She wanted to sell it soon as they figured out what it would be worth.

Nice paint on hubcaps but a little dinged up. Slight rust coming through at bottom of wheel wells. Just enough to make the paint turn reddish. I didn't look that close but it seems like there was a little bit of body work. Interior looked great. One little split on the driver's seat back. I looked at the ododmeter and it read 008xxx.

Seeing the body is not perfect but the miles are supposedly accurate, what would it be worth?

RE: 8,000 mile 240D

That's a tough one. The reason to buy ultra low mileage ones is for the pristine body and interior. The mechanicals will last forever anyway, and in a case like this the non use is probably as damaging as regular use would have been.

If the body and interior were flawless I would say it's worth $14,000 - $15,000, but the rust really bothers me. Without seeing it (any pics?) I'd say more like 9 or 10K if it's not through the paint yet.

What color and tranny is it? Good luck...let us know how it goes.

One more thing...if you can figure out that it has had bodywork, we're probably talking more like 7-8K. I'd run a carfax, too, because it is not unheard of for someone to stick a new gauge cluster in a car that's had work done (not that the old gal is out to screw you, but it happens.)

Rust? Body work? Split in seat upholstery? Boy that car's seen a hard 8K mi. Does the old lady have bridge in Brooklyn for sale as well? I wouldn't believe that mileage for a minute, and even if documented I wouldn't pay a premium for a car in that condition.

If it was kept near the ocean then it would definitely have rust and may have had body work to fix some of the rust.

My 2003 Suzuki motorcycle is from Lond Island and was always garage kept. It has rust on many of the steel parts, and it's only 3 years old!!!

I'm just hoping she will call me. If she does, I'll pull out the microscope and the fine tooth comb.

This does sound weird. Split seat with 8,000 miles. Mine has 220,000 and the seat is fine. Maybe it was taken on 8,000 1 mile trips? That would explain the seats [:D]

That is funny. I thought of the same thing. It is split in the exact smae place where mine is and my car has 304,000. I am getting more and more curious as time goes by.

Did you get her phone number, or a way to contact her? Sometimes you need to chase the owner down before you get them to sell it to you. Other times, when they start asking other people about the price their vehicle is worth, THAT person offers to buy it.
I say this because I chased my car for 7 years before the family sold it to me. I think I got it because I became a member of the family. Everytime they pulled the car out, or open the garage, I was over there.
Good Luck...
