Funny, a guy around here did a story for our paper about driving 55 around the bay area, I think it was like a 300 mile trip all the way around. Anyways he passed a total of two cars that entire time. Fuel milleage really drops off every 5 miles an hour over 65 so it really does make a difference. I think he figured if he drove 75 the whole he would have saved an hour and a bit but he saved a good amount of fuel. It seems in the end think driving faster and spending a bit more is better than driving slow and taking a long time.
I've tried going 55 and around here it is just plain dangerous. People merge onto the highways at 70+ and the average speed for all 4 lanes is at least 70 with many cars driving well over 90. I keep it between 70 and 75 and have survived so far.
I drove 60 mph the entire 423 miles from Destin to Tampa once. It was amazing: the thirsty V8 actually returned decent fuel mileage; I must have saved $75.

I had to combine my last tow fill-ups to get my milleage
Car: 83 300d turbo with 233,800 miles
Total Miles: 813(45% highway, 55% hard driving (Over 50% at WOT)around town and in the hills)
Gallons of Diesel: 30.2
Gallons of Veggie: 4
Total Milleage a touch under 24. Pretty good considering how hard I drove the car. About 200 miles were with a straight pipe. I had to clean out the soot after all my brother's highway driving.
AVG MPG for 9/2/05-12/16/05 which included 12 fillups w/o additives: 21.7 MPG
AVG MPG for 12/16/06-4/14/06 which included 12 fillups with 4oz. of Power Service added: 23 MPG
So, does this show any correlation between using an additive and gaining fuel mileage? Perhaps, but during that period when I added the additive, I did more highway driving than usual, so that may account for the higher average. Until I get the figures for the 12 fillups after 4/14/06 without addtives, we won't know for sure.

noticed my overall my b20 mileage which I've been using for the past 3 plus years, is lower than my historical long term average... but my engine also might not be as strong as it once was
btw tried to cut and paste the data, but things don't seem to line up

dirty air filter: 19-21mpg (~5-6 tanks since I bough the car)
new (OEM) air filter: 24.97mpg (1 tank, 412 mile. roadtrip. 90% highway but lots of stop and go traffic)
on that personal record holding last tank I tried really hard to keep my foot out of it too. topspeed on that tank was probably only 80mph. typically I will have some 90s and maybe a 100+ or two.. that might be keeping my mileage down.
