1978 240D Manual
280k+ miles
averaging 30.5 mpg routinely
50/50 city/hwy driving
not using Air Conditioner
add 1/2 bottle of Red Line 85 Plus per fillup
Use BP Diesel only
could probably get an add'l 2 or 3 mpg if I could coordinate my shifting better (2nd gear grinds a bit unless I pause as I come through neutral on the upshift).
No hills (elevation 22 feet)
I filled my factory tank with 100% biodiesel on 4/11/06, today on 5/5/06 I have 1,188 miles and am just below 1/4 tank on the gauge. Running WVO, homebuilt system. I don't keep track of the WVO, just keep topping it off as I go and as I have WVO settled and filtered. I'm going for 1,500 miles on this tank and a month between fills. I should just make it. Last time I actually checked my mileage I was getting 24.6 mpg. I drive 25 miles to work, short trips really kill my WVO goals as I have to drive on biodiesel to warm up for 3.7 miles and I switch back to biodiesel 2 miles before I shut the car off.

My wifes '82 300D (auto) with 377k still gets a regular 29mpg , the '72 240D has done as good as 31mpg but is usually closer to 28mpg (auto trans kills it).
I was very surprised recentlywhen I filled up with 16.1 gallons
435 miles between fillups
about 27 mpg
95% city
That seems to be the consensus and what I and most everyone else gets – somewhere with a range in the 430’s. I got mine to about 450 miles on a tank and still needed just over 16 gallons.

Some how I managed to go from 20 mpg when I first got my 84 30CDT to 33 mpg using 3 times filtered WVO, it was all highway and I kept my foot off the turbo. I monitored my boost guage and pissed a lot of people off by doing 55 MPH in the right hand lane. Try it sometime it is really hard to do.
