*this is basically going to work 2 miles and back and other chores... Rare trips through the country. A lot of running idle before even moving so I heat the car properly and comfort.
Now that I have my 300 D running well again and after two months of my 65 mile per day commute, I’m getting 25.6 mpg with 20/80 city/highway (75 mph) driving. The range is about 430 miles.
As an aside my 300 SE gets 18.7 mpg with the same driving conditions. It takes 19 gallons of fuel when the reserve light is on and has a range of about 350 miles.

Last fillup:
400-450 km (248-280 miles), 11.4 gallons, 90% city or mountain roads (higher revs)/5% highway, so somewhere between 21.75 and 24.5 miles to the gallon. Once the odometer is 100% functional I will have a more accurate milleage count.
305 miles
13.5 gallons
= 22.59 mpg
60% city / 40% highway
HOWEVER...
It appears from testing my speed against a friend's brand new Jetta that I was actually travelling between 14 and 16% faster than indicated on my speedometer...HENCE...
22.59 mpg x 1.15% (average discrepancy) = 25.98 mpg
On my W123 I average 24-25 mpg with a 50 50 city highway circuit.....I have gotten 30 mpg 3 times on a long highway trip that involves mountains and a few country roads...never had it out on a long trip that was fairly flat...am certain I could top that. This car has 155,000 miles right now.
