I have absolutely no idea whatsoever about the whereabouts of the old thread, or who or how it got deleted. Since I'm one of the new moderators though, I will post some links to some of the best W123/MB diesel technical links that I know of.
anyone notice how many of the links on the boostnbenz site arent working? all the good ones too. [:(]
I've noticed that too, I think that's because some of the links are to websites that are no longer functioning, like Steakybox or whatever it was called. Man, that website got me though quite a few DIY projects. Luckily, I saved a few "sheets", I wish I had saved them all though.

How to get recirculated cabin air all the time. Here in Texas, we need to keep our W123s cool, and that hot outside air coming in doesn't cool the car down the way we "likes it" down here, but here's a remedy for that. http://db.mercedes.cx/mb/199904/15/0010.html

RE: New Online Tech Links Thread
i want to post this info up here, so it never goes away. this is an excellent reference.....i wish i had had it when i did my job!
On the plug;
Brown = Ground -
Black = Switched Ignition +
Red = Always on +
Grey = Dash Lights(allows lights on new radio to dim when headlamps are on)
There is a thick black wire right next to that plug. The Black part is a cover and inside it's a Blue wire, That's for the power antenna.
The speaker wires are;
Red+ Black- Left Speaker (goes to fader on console)
Green+Black-Right Speaker (goes to fader on console)
If you want to by-pass the fader, you can disconnect (spelled cut)the wires from the switch and snake it back up to the radio. The wood on the console comes out by removing the ash tray mount then pull it rearward to release it. You can't pull the wood up very far unless you disconnect the wiring.
These speaker wires are;
Red= + Lt Fr
Red/Black= + Lt Rear
Green= + Rt Fr
Green/Black = + Rt Rear
Then there are only Two Speaker Grounds @ the radio both Black. You need to root out the wires going from the fader to the speakers. You will find that the front and rear side speaker ground wires are soldered together. Which make it a mutual ground, contrary to most newer head unit wire diagrams. Once I got ALL the speaker wire out of the console it was simple with plenty of wire to work with.
I used the fader location for my Vac adjuster for the euro headlights

RE: New Online Tech Links Thread
this isnt my own info, obviously......it is from the stereo tech thread by NovaScotia.....heres the other part thats good.
Here are some things I found out about my '82 300td factory stereo setup while installing my new clarion cd/mp3 deck.
black = Antenna controle
Red = + positive (switched on/off with key)
brown = - negative
Left & right master speaker outputs
Green = +R
Black = -R
Red = +L
Black = -L
the speakers all are 4 ohmns and that fader deal is crazy! It runs the speakers in parrallel meaning that when you run all four speakers the stereo sees a load of 2 ohmns on each channel. It ramps up to 4 ohmns as you fade it to the front OR rear! After a bit of consideration I decided to bypass the fader after all because the deck rated for 4 ohmns a channel would not likely have handled the 2 ohmn load for a very long period of time. There was no need to run new speaker wires as the rears loop back up to the stereo from the fader before making the trip back to the roof of the rear cabbin. I didn't even have to cut them, just unplugged them and souldered to the existing jacks.
I was unable to find any positive+12v that was not switched off by the key to run my presets and clock.
Does anyone know where and easy location for un-switched +12v from the battery might be?
Also I was unable to locate any wire that had anything to do with the dash lights to dim the display.
