Cigarette Lighter

Hey everyone, my cigarette lighter has been broken since I got the car and now Im gradually beginning to get it up to scratch then it seems a shame for something that is probably easy to fix, to remain broken. Any ides?

RE: Cigarette Lighter

I had the same problem with my 300D when I got it a few weeks ago. First, the only time the lighter will work is when the ash tray is in the fully open position, just want to make sure you know that because I didn't until I started playing with it. Take the ash try out and use a multi meter to see if you have power at the contacts that make contact to the ash tray. If you have power just clean up and bend out the contacts so they make good contact. If you don't have power, remove the two screws that hold in the trip piece around the ash try, you will see the screws when you remove the ash tray. When you pull out the trim ring you will see where the power connectors connect to this which is where the contacts get thier power. I found the connectors were disconnected on mine since someone had had the dash appart once. If you don't have power there go back to the fuses and double check. I think this is common because I did the same thing in a friends 300SD.
