We changed the fuel and oil filters on the car and now it starts hard,we purged it,but the pump leaks. Please any suggestions would be appreciated. It os a 1985 300D Turbo Diesel. It started good before we changed the filter. We tryed to purge it with it running but no difference.
You should have changed filters after purging (both main fuel filter and pre-filter). Changing them before purging is useless, it will receive all the gunk removed from purging and block your fuel delivery, hence the hard start.
Also, did you bleed the air out of the fuel system? Air in the fuel system will also cause hard starting. When you pump the primer pump (unscrew it first), continue pumping until you hear a squishing sound. That's the air coming out. Screw it back on, if it's leaking change it. Likely a cause for air to get in the fuel system.
I assume you’re referring to the hand pump and not the injection pump…
If the former you’ll need to replace it or you won’t get the air out of the system or it may fail to pressurize.
