300CD door opening/closing issue

The drivers side door on my 82 300CD is hard to open all the way. It feels like about halfway open it catches really hard. I can put some heavy pressure on it and open it the rest of the way, but sounds bad when i do this and i know i'm not doing the door any favors when i do. What is the problem and how do i fix it?

sound like someone put a sedan chech strap on your coupe. You should probly replce your check strap with a coupe version.

Yes, new check strap. The spring-loaded ball inside the check strap might be out of its housing.

The originals were painted to match the color of the car, so you might want to check out Paintscratch.com if you care about that sort of thing.

Open your door and you'll see a 3/4inch metal bar that goes from the body of the car to inside the door. Its what keeps the door open without holding it.
