Starter Problem? Mystery car doesnt like to start once its warmed up...?
Hi,
my 1983 300d has been having this problem...I drove from Tallahassee to Jacksonville a 2.5-3hour drive last weekend and I stopped at a reststop to use the restroom about 2 hours into the drive. When I got back in my car it wouldnt crank no click no nothing. The car was in park ready to be started. This has happend before but this time it took an hour to get it started, I had to wait for the car to cool down a bit. I dont know what the deal is it never has a problem starting the 1st start of the day. It has done this other times but it usually will start after a couple tries.
Next time it does it, try to jump the terminals on the right inner fender. If it cranks then, the problem is in the ignition switch/neutral saftey switch circuit. If it still doesn't crank, then its in the starter.

Where is everyone? Find out here (and let everyone know where you are, too)...
Maybe the starter is getting to hot from the exhaust? This happened on my pinto once and I fixed it by wrapping the exhaust in heat tape. I don't know if this is the problem, I am just throwing it out there.
