yes, good you stumbled on this rudolf. No bilsteins yet. I would like to do some more shock research before making that purchase. Lenght and stroke is correct, i just want to find out more about how different weight affects different valving. I think the vogtland things shortcoming will be 15 people agreeing on ride height. 15 interested in drop springs not difficult, but all at the same size, probably not. NuR if you reading, can you school me and everyone else what differences could be between a shock for a truck and a shock for our cars? I think vehicle weight should be pretty close...
the only real difference is the travel. a truck can have tons of travel, while a sports car might only have a few inches. therefore, the only real flaw in that situation would be higher rate of wear. if the shock is meant to have a resting height of say 28 inches, it will rarely see it's maximum damping length of say, 16 inches. but in the case you were to install it on a smaller car, you'd be keeping the resting height much lower, which keeps it compressed, and reduces the travel of the damper. if in the case the shock you've found is from a mid sized truck with similar demensions, then this doesn't concern me all that much. what concerns me is the "light" valving. this will still result in high wear and a sub-par response. in the long run, you'd be better off with a bilstein. what i'd shoot for is something like a heavy modern muscle car, then buy an aftermarket damper for that application. the real goal here is to find a short stroke shock with a higher damping rate that can be lightly modified to fit a 123 with adequate clearance of the tires. something like a tokico illumina would be rediculously amazing. i'm already impressed by my handling capabilites with old, cheap tires and old generic shocks.. i couldn't begin to imagine my car with illuminas, spacers, kumho exsta V710s on my pentas, heim joint linkage, solid mounts.....
79-80 2wd broncos, 2001 chevy 2wd pickups (something close to those, i have it all written down somewhere) both have dimensions nearly exactly the same as the shocks for w123, but 2 inches shorter in all lengths. Bilstien makes comfort and HD's for both of these applications.
aren't the standard W123 shocks Bilsteins, which ones are they?
I was thinking about changing all 4 shocks to some nice Koni shocks, seriously body roll with the car lowered now isn't much, just a set of good shocks front and rear is all i need now and she will corner perfect.
swap koni's for bilsteins? whaaaat? he purpose isnt to get rid of anymore bodyroll really, its to aquire a shock that properly matches the spring lenght/ride height.
hey guys. another question.. Are you keeping Comfort shocks or going to Heavy duty? And... I need a set of Factory springs for a W123 sedan with sunroof...
