85 300d operating temp.

I need to know the correct operating temp. of my 300d diesel 1985. It has a split in the plastic resovier overflow for the radiator and the temp while driving is about 85c and when idol it went up to 110c before I could turn it off. The outside temp. is 96*.

Anything under 100C is acceptable I would say. 85C is a fix for some maniacs(uncluding me).

Boiling at the measuring point (somewhere very near the termostat) is NO GOOD. I suggest you fix the cooling system "expansion tank" and keep on using centigrades instead of *'s. Although 96 IS pretty hot, I must agree.

I changed the tank in the parking lot next to the MB dealer and replaced the cap. No good. I am now changing the thermistat. When I pulled the lower hose from the therm housing, it was not wet!!
