"drip drip drip" went the transmission

I seem to have sprung a leak in my transmission. I smelled the leaking fluid and it has a slightly burnt smell. Here's where it is leaking:
Unfortunately, that isn't the pan. I sense no slippage in the transmission. It feels nice and tight. What am I looking at to fix this and what should I do next? This is an '82 300TDT w/ 200K miles. I don't know much history and the car is new to me.

Whyameye,

My transmission is leaking too, and it looks like the pan. Change the gasket, filter etc and rejoice? Not quite...

Upon discussing this with my mechanic, he suspected it might just be a minor repair, but there might also be deeper trouble within. He's not one to bullshit me into fixing more than I need to so my advice to you is to get an expert to look at it. Mine goes under the knife on Thursday (due for a service anyway)

I'm sure others in the forum will give you some good technical advice on what it might be. The burning smell you mention doesn't sound ideal...

Looks like either the front main trans seal, wich will require pulling the trans out to replace, or the convertor drain plug not tight, but unlikely.

Your smelling the trans fluid as it blows back onto the exhaust and burning.

Jamie
