Hey guys, I'm sure this has been posted numerous times but I am in kind of a hurry and wanted to know if anyone has a link to diesel giant or similar source that details replacing the shutoff vacuum actuator on the IP. My daughters 240D is starting to have intermittent shut off problems. The door locks all work as they should and I checked for any obvious leaks under the hood with the lines and connectors but I've already replaced most of the problems over the years. As far as I know this could still be the original shut off so I ordered a new one and was curious how difficult it is to replace. The picture of the part looked pretty simple, has anyone replaced one of these recently? The car is a 1981. Thanks and please don't chastise me for not using the search feature, I promise I will next time when I have more time. Cyberbach

Yea these cars will last a million miles but what with terrorists, natural disasters and the H5N1 avian flu pandemic... God help us there's anyone left here to drive them.
before you take everything apart try cleaning the vac lines with compressed air with the key switch in the off position.
if you do replace the valve.. make sure you take the air cleaner off and have a board or phone book handy to block the intake in case of a runaway engine!
Thanks turbo, I will read up on it tonight when I get home from work. I ordered the part last night so I have a few days to study before I actually get dirty.
I am not familiar with the 240D setup but with the 300TD you have to remove the oil filter canister from the block to get adequate room to withdraw the shut off assembly from the back of the IP. Otherwise, once there was enough room the job was quick and straightforward.
