Rusty rear wheel arches

Hi guys - I usually reside on the w126 forum but today picked up my first w116 - a 1979 450 SEL.

The rear wings/wheel arches are in need of replacing or repairing due to rust. If I buy new/used panels for this area, how much of the panel do I have to buy? Which one of the parts would I have to buy from here?

You'd have to buy both rear 1/4 panels. At least, that's what I would do. I've seen arches repaired, but usually the rust comes back.

Replacing a full quarter panel is a MAJOR job, believe me! These cars contain many spotwelds, some in awkward places! If the rust in the original arches is removed by cutting and replaced with new metal the rust will not come back, assuming it is sealed painted and rustproofed of course. By the way I assume from the prices that these are not genuine Mercedes parts for sale on this site? I am in the UK so shipping would make the prices to high, but they seem really good value pricewise.

i had minor bubbling on my rear arches and rust behind the two back wheels in the wheel well. I had my body guy cut the rust out, put new bits of sheet metal and rust proofed it. It should hold quite well. hopefully...
