I have a 6.9 engine and rebuilt tranny... and im looking into putting the engine and trans in my 91 SEL... anyone know how big of a problem this might be? the car the engine is coming out of is not very good.. and would be way to much to try to restore.. however the engine is good... someone said somthing about there being an oil resivoir in the fender? i knwo this is a sump oil setup in the 6.9s.. but is it somthign thats been done. or has someone seen it done before?

It can be done but the 6.9 reservoir is in the fender in the shape of a saddlebag of sorts. It had to hold 3 gallons of oil so they had to put it somewhere!
The engine is very heavy. 1000 lbs. You'll probably want to get stiffer springs and shocks. A 560SEL would be just about as fast as a 6.9 factoring in weight and the widely spaced 3 speed.
Did you have the tranny rebuilt? May I ask where and who did it? New torque converter too? Mine is shimmying a little on a leadfooted takeoff.
a mercedes guy down in Tuscan rebuilt it.. i dont knwo details... he has the car now and from what i know hes taken a ton of parts of the body.. makign it not useable.. however the reason i want to use the 6.9 as opposed to the 560.. is the uniqeness of it.. and its just such a cool engine..
