I have a 1977 350SE with 103000 easy miles on the odo. There is significant wear on #1 lobe of the R camshaft. What has likely caused this unusual wear as it is not evident on any other lobe on the came camshaft or on any lobe on the L camshaft? Timing chain and associated bits replaced in last 5000 miles. Little distance travelled in the last 7 years.
Could be a blocked oil feed to that lobe. The pipe above the cam has small holes aligned above each lobe and oil should run continously onto each lobe. A blocked hole could cause one lobe to wear much faster. The oil flows from the back of the engine so a blockage could be starving the front of the cam.
even vorse i have seen to many loose pipes from the plastic where the pipe goes thrue and if it loose the lubrication from the back of the engine cant fill it out all the way so its the same as oil pressure failure you can say in the pipe . soon i will fabricate new ones but in aluminum and there will never be a problem any moore .
Thanks GaryF - you were right. NOS cam with virgin SH lifter and finger now fitted. Will post photo of worn lobe when I can.
Engine is still rough and down on power. Seems I need a new fuel distributor, and I don't know where to start looking. SH seems like a bad idea without QA, so I need a NOS item. Would a 450SE or a W128 380SE item do the job properly?
Super 6.9 - post when you have oil lines available - but please don't make anything out of old SAAB parts!
[Seems I need a new fuel distributor, and I don't know where to start looking.]
FYI I just removed the entire Bosch K-jetronic fuel injection from my well running '78 450 SEL to swap in a programmable EFI and was thinking of selling the fuel distributor and other parts on EBAY. I'm not certain that it's the same part as for your 350 SE, but if it is and you're interested, PM me.
Thanks, but I'm infirmed that they're not interchangeable. I have had the system rebuilt and some other bugs still need to be ironed out. Will post photo eventually.
