Fuel Consumption Improvements

We all know that the 350SE isn't exactly frugal when it gets to the fuel pumps. Are there ways that this can be improved? For example, would it be possible to fit a four speed transmission from the later W126? If I swop the original 14" wheels for larger 16"s would that make a noticable difference? Any other tips will be welcomed.

You already have a 4 speed transmission if you're not aware and I don't see any way how a W126 4 speed transmission would improve mileage.

Tires and wheels, plus sized to 16" will accomplish nothing but the correct air pressure will.

The best tip I can give is to keep everything in the ignition and fuel system up to par for best results.

Based on my limited knowledge, the car's weight, the fuel supply system, the combustion efficiency, etc. will all effect the consumption. Besides, I feel that the larger size wheel will also increase the fuel consumtion, so for both comfort and fuel consumption, the 14' in wheel should be better.

I have ordered a set of electronic ignition for my W116, which claim to have better combustion efficiency and hopefully by then my fuel consumption will improve. Also try not to put a lot of things in the car, apart from those which is needed.
