Buying a 350SE

I have wanted a classic Mercedes Benz for a long time and have always liked the big cars (W108,116,126,etc.). A 350SE has come up for. It is a 1977 model with 140 000km on the clock. The car seems to have had only two owners from new, but hasn't been used regularly recently.
I have experience with old cars (I've had a Jaguar XJ6, a Valiant V200 and a Peugeot 404) but I am not clued up with Mercedes cars. I would appreciate any advice and tips on what to look for. What are the things to watch out for when buying one, etc.?
I should ad that I live in South Africa and therefore we have the Euro spec cars, presumably without the US emissions equipment and (ugly) lights and bumpers.
