I sold my 280S in May, when I bought my 126, but now I am starting to miss that big old girl. The 126 is such a comfortable car to drive, but it just does not have the same classic appeal as a 116.
I know what all you guys are going to tell me to do......... The problem is that if I am to make space for a 116, then something has to go. I can't mess with the wife's 190E because she will kill me!!!
I love the looks of the old 116.
To my mind, the 126 was a far less ostentatious looker - followed by the banal bland (yet super comfy) 140.
Strikes me that the S Mercedes moved over the three generations from 'up you' exterior eye appeal of the 116 (with crap interiors) to the exact opposite in the 140.
Perhaps this is why late 126's have enduring appeal - they are reminiscent of the 116 exterior, and hint of the interior 140 luxury to come.

I agree, but i think that the interiors arnt that bad justy badly maintained in most cases, I like the 116's.
The 126 is a modern classic wheras the 116 is a flat out classic, as its the right age and has the right looks. The 126 wouldnt be what it is without mercedes coming up with the engineering advances as it did with the 116. Especially in the handling department.
Plus Im all for W140 bashing

Dunno Of course you'll hear the same ol',same ol' ,that the W116 is inferior to the W126 and etc,etc . Nomada will be on your side I bet.
Wrong Nuts – guess you don’t know 126 owners too well. No 126 owner thinks the 116 is inferior, that would be an ignorant thing to say.
To the thread author: I know how you feel, that’s why I have – and will always keep – my 123. 126s, 123s, 116s, 107s are all special and unique in their own way, none are better then the other.
