about a week ago I came across a single owner 74' 450 SE w/almost 75k original miles.... car is immaculate inside and out. previous owners passed away so the bank was selling the car for cheap and I got lucky. I've been into volkswagens and audi's for years, but this one caught my eye. the car was serviced at the dealer only and in the glovebox was every single receipt to prove this. the maintenance and warranty books are brand new looking and so is the owner's manual. I couldn't be happier. the car looks brand new inside and out. unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the car yet because I just bought it. I'll post pictures tomorrow of the car. I was trying to find information on the car and stumbled upon this site, so i figured i'd look around. just thought i'd drop in and introduce myself and say hi.
I'm pretty lucky to have had this thing fall in my lap... I was not looking for one at all, but I fell in love with the car instantly. The shifter is on the steering column, never seen that before in a mercedes. Is this rare? or is it common for older mercedes?
I paid $3450 for the car. steal of a deal... that's why i bought it without even thinking. no brainer. but here are the pictures. I have done nothing to the interior and engine bay yet as far as cleaning goes. the outside I cut, polished, and waxed (I do details for a living so I pulled it in the shop immediately)... I haven't polished any of the metal yet. I also touched up some rock chips with the unopened factory touch up paint.... unbelievable the touch up paint came back to life after 31 years when i added some reducer to it. enjoy the pictures, there are more to come when I get a chance to give it the extensive full detail it deserves.
Welcome and thankyou for posting pics of the most beautiful W116 I have seen for many years. I really like the colour. Think you`ve hit the jackpot. Wow, an iconic Benz for a handful (relatively!) of dollars.
I am sure if you look after it, it will look after you for many years to come. I can imagine just cleaning it and staring down and along it`s lines must be a source of real pleasure and pride.
