Body trim fasteners?

Anyone know a good source for all the little clips, inserts, etc, that hold the trim strips and emblems on a '79 W116? I'm taking off the trim strips and emblems in preparation for sanding and bodywork but I don't think I'm going to be able to get a lot of the plastic inserts out in one piece. They seem pretty brittle after all the years.

Thanks!
Gary.

$.50 each? I'm surprised they're not $100+ each! Everything else on this damned car is horribly overpriced! I'm already looking at $500+ worth of "special tools" just to fix the motor, and I don't even know what's wrong with it yet.

This is beginning to get really frustrating and I'm starting to wish I hadn't found this car. I've already got 2 mortgages on my house! Oh well, enough bitching, back to work on it![:(!]

(I know, I know. In the end, when it's all done, I'll be glad I stuck it out!)

Did you forgot that your driving a mercedes?[:D]
Mercedes cars are special cars, and special cars need special things, and special things cost MONEY.[^]
I haven't really driven it yet, other than the brief slow "rattle" down the street and back the other day and somehow, that just doesn't quite count.

My other car is a '70 VW Bus (Westfalia Camper actually) and believe it or not, it's almost as expensive to buy parts for. I think it's "a German thing", not just Mercedes![:D]

At least I can drive the VW every day if I have to. I think I have a long way to go on the MB though. I bought the MB from a "junkyard" for $300, so I wasn't really expectng to even run much less be in as good a condition as it is.

RE: Body trim fasteners?

Anyway, to get back on subject, nobody knows any good "discount" places to get trim hardware from?

That's a score for $300 IMO [:D]What condition are the
rockers in?

I have bits and pieces from my 300SD left,so just ask
me and I just may have what you need[;)]

Once it's going like you want, you will feel better[8D]

The rockers are a little rusty (mostly surface rust). There are a few small holes but but the rockers are still mostly solid and not "crunchy" so I think I can save them. The floor is solid and so is the trunk. I also checked for "structural rust" and everything is solid. I have yet to pull the front and rear windows and see what waits under the rubber gaskets. That should be interesting although I don't see any signs of rust there. I saw what you were talking about when you told me about the rust I would find when I took off the bumpers. It was "Swiss Cheese" where the front fenders meet the front valance panel. Front fenders don't seem too expensive and I think I can patch the valance.

All things considered, I think I made out pretty good. The guy I bought it from is a friend and even says he "gave me the car" for $300. He knows it was worth more. We do a lot of favors for each other so I guess he thought he owed me one. I know I mentioned it, but he owns a auto junkyard and the car has been sitting in the back lot there for probably 12 years. It's a miracle it wasn't stripped clean. Ed says he never let anyone take stuff off it because he knew it was in too good a condition to part out but didn't know what to do with it so it just sat there. I think some stuff was taken like the power window switches (since replaced) but I can't tell what else might be missing. If I come up with anything, I'll let ya know!
