Help me decide 64 190 heckflosse

I just got home from looking at a 1964 190. It was in rough shape with rusted floor boards and on trunk sides behind the rear tires. The body was decent and no dings or dents. The car started and ran fine, something is wrong with most likely hyd. system with clutch as it would not go into gear once running. The interior was decent needs cleaned and the dash needs restored. Anyhow the guy is asking 2800, I offered him 1000 and he rejected that offer. I told him I'll think about , I had my heart on buying it and then fixing clutch and replace floor pans but seems like it's hard to find parts. Also wanted to put air bags on it. Anyways just asking you all your options?! Thanks. Also I'm new here name is josh from cincohio.

2800 is about the money I would expect to pay for a running, rust free car, that needs a little work. (well on at car that old, small amount of rust. But, I am used to California.)

Did a little more research. This somewhat interests me, as I have a 1966 200.

Haggerty places value as:

Concours $20k
Excellent $15.2k
Good $10.7k
Fair $7.7k

The car you mention is sub-fair, as substantial rust makes it a parts car, or major work. Fair is a complete car, daily driven, and minor defects in paint, with minor dents and could need some minor running work.

Thanks guys, I did in fact run. He had a total of 3 cars and asking 5500 for all of them they all were parts cars though. Im still looking.

I'm thinking those Haggerty values are extremely high. I would think a really nice car with very few flaws would only bring the Fair price on a good day. No way would one ever bring $20k. Though cool looking, these cars are just not sought after by collectors, and thus, body parts specific to the W110 body style are not reproduced.

I agree with bfrymire on the price. With that much rust, and expect more than you see, the seller is way overpriced. I frankly would not give much more than scrap price from all the work you say it needs, or use it for parts for another. It does not take long to dump a lot of money into a car like that with all the body work needed, and it will never be worth as much as you will need to spend. Make sure the unibody frame rails are not rusted or else you will just have a parts car. Your $1000 offer was more than fair.
