$69K?

For $69K I would expect better. There are a lot of obviously incorrect items on this car.

Yeah, but that's Aussie bucks, so 69K is like 6.9K US, right?

dash wood seems wrong color
what's going on with the carpet by the gas pedal?
inside of hood is suppose to be body color
spark plug wires totally incorrect
antennae crooked
wrong radio
wrong AC interior panel
I dont think that is the correct floor shifter or seat belts
battery terminals are on the wrong side of the battery
extra hose clamp on the pipe going across tip of engine connecting metal pipe to rubber to valve cover
what's with the side reflector on the front fenders?
large holes in grille, I think this year should have smaller holes? what year did they change?

I'm with you that the asking price is a lot more than one would expect or anticipate, but most of what you're getting picky over is minor, in my mind.

Wood is the right color - my 108 came with the same, and spare wood that I bought over the years differed in color, grain, texture, et al.
Color of spark plug wires is a minor detractor. The fact that they enable an operable Mercedes is cause for celebration, IMO.
Antenna crookednosity can be fixed in 5 mins.
AC panel - yeah, I'm with you on that one. Totally custom methinks?
Floor shifter is correct. My 108 has the same, my 300 has the same, my dad's 250 has the same.
Seat belts original to the car were probably kangol ones - the upgrade to a three point system is a welcome one, IMO
Extra hose clamps and battery terminal wrong sidedness seem minor too.
Side reflectors don't look Mercedes native to me, but there are likely to be changes for the local markets?

Had this been for sale in the US, I'd go after it at $5k, maybe a bit more. I wonder if the asking price is apropos where it sits ...

Mostly minor I agree, but for top dollar they are not acceptable to me.

incorrect spark wires really bother me as they jump right out at you first thing you see in engine bay. They scream"I dont care" to me.

side reflector i considered if local delivery option, but I couldnt find any pictures. seems most euro dont have any and if they do they are little round ones up front near where the US rectangular ones are. Would be interested to learn anything about these.

If it was a 5K car, I wouldn't care about most of the items.

Wowee, that is high. I wonder if it was the car that a guy came on here for looking for help with the fuel injection pump? Can't be too many restored 108's in that part of the world.
Anyway, some local perspectives:
- aussie cars did come with those side indicators. There are lots of old farts in that part of the world, so I wonder if they were trying to make their turns more obvious to old fogeys!
- aussie cars came with a MARK IV CUSTOM a/c unit - this looks to be a more modern generic evaporator. The old ones look nicer, they are more rounded. I don't have any pics on me unfortunately but they look similar to the US ones I see on google images.
- with a nice paint job, if the rubbers are new, new king pin bushes etc in keeping with a restored car, there is no way it would be worth only $5k. You would be a bandit to get it for that. The A/C alone would have cost him around $3-4k if it did not have it originally. It would be reasonable to expect to pay at least $18-20k for a car with only a few minor annoyances to correct. I spent about $40k on my finnie so there is no way I would sell it for $5k.
If that car is worth $5k in the US, I have to move there! Make some more room!
Cheers, Drew
