I recently purchased a real nice 280 se with out keys. The help I'am asking for is.

Do you think a locksmith can make a key for this car?
could Mercedes make a key for a car this old?

Contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer with proof of ownership in hand (usually a registration in your name). They will be able to assist.

You can get a new key from Mercedes. Do you have the documents of the car? If you don't have the keys I guess you don't have the documents either, because in mine there was a code which was the "Key replacement code".

But if I recall correctly, I had to prove it was my car first. You can do that like the poster above said, or you can show them your documents when you purchased the car.

If you go the locksmith route, you might consider buying a blank from eBay first and allowing your guy to use it for his work.

Recently lost my only key.
MB said they could make a key but would take 5/10 days turnaround. Can collect at your nearest dealer with proof of ownership. Not expensive.

Or you can do a lot of ringing around car locksmiths to see if they have a blank in stock that fits.

My key opened all doors, so blank was cut from the door barrel. no need to take out ignition.

your problem is you don't know if all the barrels are the same/original. So a MB key may not work when it arrives.
You need a good car locksmith. You could bring the barrel to them rather then pay the call out fee.

I have found these guys to be really good, and helpful for blanks or cut keys.
