Gasoline for Diesel engine swap

Ok, so I had been kicking around the idea for an engine swap on my 115. Someone on another thread brought up putting a diesel in there and I gotta say I am really interested in that. The thing is, I don't know much about Mercedes Benz diesels or any diesels for that matter, but I'd like to try to get into it. If there are any diesel mechanics or enthusiasts out there, feel free to chime in on what parts I'm gonna have to buy or change. I've been thinking about the OM606 out of a late 90's E class already but I'm open to ideas. Thank you guys

The problem you are going to have with your '72 W114/115 is going to be finding a diesel engine to fit in your engine bay.

Early 220D's, 240D's and 300D's will fit up to model year '75. After that they changed the location of the oil filter. You can fit a remote filter but it isn't worth the hassle.

OM615-OM617's (pre-1976) are what will fit diesel-wise (and maybe some of the even earlier engines) but none of the newer stuff without extensive modifications.

You can do most anything with enough time and cash. If you do want to pop a newer diesel into a W115, have both cars side by side and transfer parts that way, so you can follow the way the systems were in the newer car and replicate that in the w115

Check and see what was done with the diesel r107. The front subframe is the same. So I would expect the same modifications to work on the w115.

There's a California member that has put tons of miles on his recent conversion. I'm sorry I can't remember his handle, but the conversion is certainly in the sticky egv107 in the R/c107 roadster forum.

The comprehensive build thread is here - 380SL Diesel Conversion Project

And yes, it's got 105k miles on it since the swap.

Thank you! I will definitely be looking it over. I was thinking about an OM606 because i know they are really reliable but an OM617 would be great too. Definite thanks!
