Center console project for a 108.
I would love to hear your input. I am going to design and build a center console for my 1968 280se. With a couple of cup holders up front an open tray area in the middle, for glasses, phone etc. Then toward the back a small door to store items, valuables etc. I am going to tie it in with the overall style of the car,. Using Vinyl similar to the dash for the sides, Walnut for the flat areas taking the time to have no hard edges, only flowing wood grain from one piece to the next and chrome bezels surrounding the cup holders to pull in the details of the speedometer etc. I have mocked up a crude example just for visualization purposes to check size and design etc. The unit would drop straight into the current plastic tray and fasten with the factory screws. I have been restoring and finishing furniture for 30 years and would like to give this a go, with the possibility of making some to sell? My main goal is to make it in such a way to compliment the car and look like a factory item. Fit and finish will be paramount to match the quality of the interior. I'd welcome any thoughts.
All the best John.
