Exclamation Be careful who you trust

I work for a man who has multiple classic Mercedes that all need restoring, because of this I look for parts all around the country. About 3 months ago I found a parts supplier called JCM Parts, or John Marshall Restoration. John is located in Montana, I live in Louisiana. I ordered two rubber trunk mats for a 3.5 280se coupe and cabriolet. John told me that he had 15 in stock and had another shipment of about 30 on the way. I ordered them on the phone, he said that they would arrive by the end of the week.
Well after three months I still do not have these mats. I called him to complain and ask where these mats were, he then blamed his distributer and said that it was their fault for the mats taking a while. This does not make sense because when I ordered them, he told me he had 15 in stock.
To make this short, he basically called me a liar, and said that he did not need our business anyhow. This is a huge loss to him because we need a good parts person, and we will order thousands upon thousands of dollars of parts from them, just not John Marshall.
He also lost the business of a 300sl engine that has a crack, I told him this and said it needs fixing, he said that they would do it; He lost that business too.

The morale of the story is folks before you order a bunch of parts and spends thousands of dollars trusting one person... make sure they are a reputable source! Please don't make the mistake we made, make sure you know who you are dealing with.

In the case of dealing with John Marshall, I would not suggest him as a reputable source, customer service was terrible, getting parts was terrible, and he lost thousands of dollars of business due to his lies and BS'ing us.

Thanks and y'all be sure to check your sources!

I'm sorry you've had an unfortunate experience with John. Like with any business ( airlines, hotels, restaurants ) you can find customers who've had good and those who've had bad experiences. It's been about fifteen years since I've dealt with John but my experience with him was completely satisfying, he was able to supply a part for my '66 300SE CAB that I couldn't find anywhere else.

I always add a grain of salt to any complaint made by a person with a history of only one or two posts.

Thank you for the note, this is true, I am happy to see that someone else has had experience with this person. I am glad that you had a good experience, I just don't think I want to trust this person again after what happened. We already found someone to weld up and rebuild the 57 300sl engine, although we are still looking for the trunk mats. Thanks for the post and have a great day.

I'm pretty sure I got an email a few months back stating that MB did a run of w108/109 trunk mats and they were only about $110 each or something like that. Contact Tom Hanson at the classic center in Irvine, CA.

Oops! They cleared out. Tom Hanson replied that both the w108 and pagoda trunk mats are all sold out. He said the w108 sold out about three months ago. So this could have been a simple misunderstanding, and maybe the vendor continuing to try and fulfill your order via other means. Sadly, it sounds like MB was all sold out just before the OP's order.

When I asked Tom today if I should order one for my w108...
"You’re about 3 months too late. They’re gone, and now the 280SL trunk mats are gone too! I don’t know why."

Lots of vendors just sell MB stock, and it's best just to contact a pro like Tom when it comes to the classic stuff that goes NLA all the time.
