New to vintage forum, although I guess that my 78 300CD would qualify. Have spent tons of time on R107, and W123 forums.
Today I found locally, a guy that has 3 old MB's, sitting in his yard. I stopped and talked to him and 2 of them are 180D, and 1 190D. All are manual trani. He thought they were all 1958 or 1959 model years. Did not spend a lot of time inspecting, but none of them had any obvious rust. Have not spent any time researching this old of MB, but am intrigued with these. Always looking for another winter project
My main questions are:
1: How valuable/rare are these models? Sounds like I can get all three for little more than scrap prices.
2: Is it worth putting the time/money into making one good one out of the three?
3: How expensive/hard to get are parts?
4: What are these cars worth, as they sit, for parts? He said that they all ran when parked, over ten years ago, but one had considerable blow buy.
5: Searched for some threads on these years, but have not found much info. Looking for some good sources for information.
5: Will get, and post pictures, if I get any interest, enough info to make a decision, or a wild hair up my ass.
6: What is the difference between the 190D, and 180D's, if I got the "package" which would be the one to restore?
Really on the fence on this one, looks like a lot of work, but are neat looking cars.
