Or hot rod it with whatever works. The interior will never be original. So there's no reason the engine needs to be. Maybe it would make good spare parts for some 190sl owner. And there's really no need to put back on the majority of the trim. Just make it roadworthy and it will be cool.

I have the front and rear glass for this car. It came out of a '58 220s. It is taking up valuable space, but I will never use it. I cannot bring myself to chuck it. I will give it away for free for the cost of shipping. I send a lot of delicate stuff around the country and can put the glass in a proper lightweight crate.

If anybody is interested, in box me.

That's good to know! Especially if we end up breaking this glass!

I wish I got some pictures, but today we pulled everything out of the cab and hit it with a leaf blower. The engine bay has been painted. The insides of the doors have been painted. I'm not sure when, but someone put a trunk pan inside/above the old rusty trunk pan. There is still dented and rotted trunk pan visible from the underside. The floors on the inside seem incredibly solid. Really the trunk was the only rot we found. There's a hole in one end of the front bumper. There was a bit of surface rust on the camshaft, but the engine turns freely. It looks like it should run. The air cleaner and top of the carb were a mouse nest, but the intake was very clean. The carb was removed to clean it up and perhaps use on another fintail temporarily. Since the coil and all the wiring is in there, yet the engine bay has been painted. I suspect that either everything was running after the car was painted, or possibly they didn't get it running again and abandoned the project. The muffler is in the cab. Sorry my phone was dead and I didn't get pics.

Oh. We started by getting the rear wheels up on the dolly. Something was catching at first but a nylon massdam around the axle pulling it up the dolly got the rear wheels spinning. It's obviously been sitting a long time after the body work was done. The license plate expiration (not sure if it was for this car) was 1993.

Well, even though I could probably muscle this one away from my friend @rwd4evr , it's his car and not mine. I'm just hoping he decides to help me out with shop space rent when he gets his shop. I've helped a lot with this car starting with finding it, providing a place to put it, the truck for the dolly, the dolly, and helping clean it out and find what it actually is. Other than that @rwd4evr met the tow truck driver behind my house, paid for it, bolted the hood on right, and today removed the carb and used my leaf blower on on it to clean it out. He seems to feel bad about buying the car and not having me "in on the deal". Sure, I could do that, but the fact is that I don't have the time or place for this one in my life. I'm still excited about it though.

I promise to report what I know. If for any reason @rwd4evr doesn't get the shop space April 1, then build progress will surely be slow. Right now it's on a dolly attached to my truck out back, and rwd4ever can't do a whole lot with it.

Hopefully rwd4evr will take over reporting and upload pics occasionally, but I will certainly have access to get in as I will be sharing shop space with him, and the car will be in there. I'm not sure how much time or tools I will keep there as I work from home, and have a wife and three kids. Rwd4evr is more of a free man with that respect. So I can live vicariously through his projects and work. I can feed him deals and car parts and stuff like that. Hell, so far I have found for him:
- fintail 220s
- m110 engine for the above car from @baron youngman
- w108 280sel 4.5 that I "split" with him
- w108 diesel conversion I found on eBay
- now this ponton

None of the cars above run!

I like to stick to cars that run or just part them out. I spent last winter trying to get a damn 1970 250c running and rebuilding those damn zeniths. I have found far greater luck with injected cars and will stay the hell away from any carbs. Give me a k-jet or a d-jet any day of the week over a carburetor. Rwd4evr has no problem with them though.

At this point, I can't wait to see this thing up in the air. With the engine in seemingly decent shape, and a cleaned carb, I'm wondering if the exhaust is still intact, and with an IV bottle of fuel if this thing will run. If it does, well... Shit.
