M189 engine

I bought a 1966 250CE coupe to restore. It has 189 engine not running, after research and getting data card, this is not correct engine to this car. My question is, where to sell this engine, and what would it be worth. I have found and bought another engine for the car from a sedan with 79,000 miles. Any information is appreciated. Thanks Robert

Hmm, yeah, the 189 engine was not used by a lot of models. They are hideously expensive to fix if you need parts or if they are corroded (they have an early aluminium alloy bolted to steel so it suffers from galvanic corrosion if the incorrect or no coolant is used). So a non-running M189 I would say is worth bugger all. The value lies in finding someone who absolutely wants a M189 and I think finding that person will require you to try to sell in every possible arena - on here, peach parts, and your local MB club.
Good luck but I don't think you will be retiring on your sales proceeds!
Cheers, Drew

Does the engine turn? I recently semi-resurrected the M189 in my 1965 300SE that had been parked for 15 years. The engine sort of runs now.

Lots of the parts are of use, particularly the injection pump, lines, injectors, bakelite injector blocks... It would be interesting to know _why_ someone put this engine in this car, and if the transmission is correct for the engine or for the car or if they trans is the same for either.

The water pump is strange and useful if it isn't frozen or broken. I don't know what I actually need at this point as I'm considering swapping in a rebuilt M130 engine into my 300SE.

The transmission is 300. I started listing some parts on eBay,I bought the car from photos and believed what the guy told me. However the body is perfect, interior is 8 out of ten, and I love this body and always want one as a weekend driver.
