Engine swap on W110 for later 190

Hi, I have a column change 190c 1965 with a stuffed engine, will an engine from a later ( mid to late 1980's) car mate up to my 4 speed gearbox, I can pick up a complete running car for about £800 and my 190 was very slow anyway so a bit more power would be good
Thanks

What kind of engine? Or what car is it coming from?

What kind of skills do you have?

It's a pretty wide open question you ask.

Sorry, I mean't another Mercedes, late 80's 190's are cheap, cheaper than rebuilding my Fintail engine so just wondered if later Mercedes engines will bolt straight up to my manual gearbox or would I need to make an adaptor plate as I'd like to retain the column change
Cheers

The column shifter doesn't necessarily mean you need to retain the transmission.

I am not aware of any easy direct bolt-on applications, but believe some earlier engines might be closer.

Take a look in the EPC at your transmission and engine housing or the flange / adapter plate on the engine. I did find that many late-60's-to early 80's 6-cylinder and diesel setups all used the same flange/adapter plate.
