w109 300 SEL 4.5 air suspension question

hi, I just bought a 2-owner 300 SEL 4.5. I know the air suspension generally works because the car will lift when I pull the suspension knob out. However, the ride is rock-hard and I'm wondering why that might be. It has 151K miles on it and is in overall nice driver condition.

Jim, Congratulations on your classic car purchase.

There are numerous items involved in the air suspension system. My suggestion would be to use google and read up on all the info for this suspension. Costs could be rather expensive for major overhauls, but it sounds like yours doesn't need to go that far.

I did a search on repair shops (on this forum) in the Seattle area:

Some of them specialize in suspensions. Good luck!

Do you have the air suspension knob pushed in all the way which is the normal ride height ? Middle position is locked. All the way out is the extended height. Are the emergency buffers installed? If so it will give a very hard bouncy ride. M-100.co is your best website for help.

I would also suggest reading through Martin Werminghausen's articles on his website 600airsuspension.com. He is extremely knowledgeable and a great resource. I just installed two rebuilt front air valves and antifreeze device that he provided for me.
