Used 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Sedan for sale in NAPLES, FL | Used Cars Naples Florida | Naples FL | Autohaus of Naples
Things on this car I see:
Door seals and trunk seal @$150 each
Door caps, not available can be repaired $50-100
dash crack can be repaired $100-150
Dash wood refinish $1000 - $1500
refinish wood around windows
front seat leather $1383 - actually seats look like MB tex to me. $735 MB Tex
steering wheel repair $500+
still has original wiper blade holders, dont EVER trow them away -NLA
engine bay, wrong oil filler cap, wrong radiator cap, wrong spark plug wires need replaced as original work better, rubber strip at back of compartment $50, needs new vacuum hoses - plastic
need new spare tire, check date codes on all the rest, 10 year old tires are not safe. white wall tires havent been generally available for some time now
rust in trunk wells, may be ready to rust all the way thru, check under spare tire, I see rust spots on outside surface there.
front frame cross member looks rusty - NLA part
radiator prob needs cleaned
I would guess car needs complete fluids changes, trans, rear end, etc
Would suspect it needs subframe mounts and some suspension bushings
replace all rubber fuels hoses.
try jacking the car up using the jack in the jack holes and see if they crush - very common
trunk carpet not original - look for MB plastic one underneath.
new shocks $500
missing chrome cover on side of drivers seat
something look wrong with rear seat middle arm rest
tear in rear rubber bumper insert - $200
all of the above is parts only - dealer wont even do cosmetic things. add labor.
Some of the cosmetic things may not bother you , but they are there.
paint looks very good, interior fair, engine and underside look poorly kept. may be a sign of overdue maintenance needed.
again 58K? hard to tell maybe 158K without proof. because it is a 5 digit odo, they only have to report what is on it when seen. carfax cant help you as vin is old system numbers and they dont work. You need actual paper work that proves mileage.
Now to financing. Your credit union is lying to you. There is no way they would loan you more than the car is worth. They may not actually loan you the asking price. They will tell you they will, then when you go to dealer you will find out they actually approved you for about 1/2. The car will not appraise for more than the asking price ever. Financing future repair costs is insanity. Credit is given based on credit rating and ability to repay. you may have neither. Get your parent to finance and you will have a chance. - it wont improve your credit score any, but at least you would get the loan.
I'm not trying to say don't do it, but at least know what your are getting into.
Dont expect the dealer to drop the price very much, they have had it in inventory for at least 4 months now. It's gone from 11900 to 9900 so far.
If you can figure out where to get $15K and you have an independent inspection, theny do what you want. It's your money/car and experience.
We will still be here to help you along the way.
