Dual Weber Conversion for 1978 230

Hey everyone. I have a 78 230 with the Stromberg, and I think I'd like to upgrade to some nice dual Webers.

I'm aware that it would be a pretty massive undertaking, but I was wondering if anybody knew where you could find a manifold for such a thing, or if it even exists.

I'm just wondering if this is even a good idea, and where I'd find the parts. Any suggestions or ideas you guys have are welcome, consider it a "for fun, what if..." Situation.

Well, the w114 230 was initally fit with a single 175CD carb but you won´t get much improvement with dual webers on that 4 cyl engine. you may try the Solex 4A1 installed on the W116 280S or W123 230 engine, also intake manifold on the w123 will help.

Solax 4A1 can be troublesome in repairs or servicing;Weber's a better choice .

Which kind of webers?

(Upfront: I am not that familiar with the 1978 230.)

Side or down draft? There is a kit for the down draft webers for the mercedes: Mercedes conversion hardware - JAM Engineering Fuel Systems

Single weber kit for the 230: Mercedes 4cyl 220 32/36 DGAV - JAM Engineering Fuel Systems

The older 200's had twin carbs, and the manifold may fit the 230 with some modifications. (I am assumming the 230 is the 4 cylinder.)

Side draft, you would have to source a 190SL manifold and buy the carbs.

But, as everyone has stated, on a stock engine, not really going to do much. The single down draft might work well.

Or if you are really brave, convert to EFI using megasquirt and a gm throttle body injection. Been done a couple of times.

Hey!
The 78 230 has a single side draft Stromberg. I'd like dual Webers simply because it would look and sound cool.

So, the only solution is to find a 190SL manifold, and buy the weber kit. (it might need to be modified...)

Overall, not cheap for cool looks. The manifold, if you can find one, is going to be $$$. The carb kit is ~$1000. To really use it, you will need to open the exhaust up, as well as more cam.

And you had better have a manual trans. I am quite sure it will bog with an automatic.

But, you are right, hearing webers at full song, is a wonderful sound.

This is all theoretical right now. I may save the idea for an Italian sports car if I ever find a nice one.
