Exclamation w108 1972 280sel power window nightmare

Hi everyone,

Just started putting together my inteior on a long restoration.

Power window motors were taken out and lubbed two regulator changed.

All terminals cleaned and lubbed

Now to the issue.

My front driver and rear passanger windows work perfect, BUT my front passanger and rear drivers windows do not.

Checked power on the NOT working switches and they do have power and ground but instead of reversing polarity they change polarity all together to the motor either sending both positive or both negative, that goes to both doors that are not functional.

The relays were checked, fuses checked

No wiring was ever cut or looks to be cramped anywhere, probed both motors w reverse polarity they work perfect bypassing the system.

I am pretty savy at wiring but this is kicking my butt.

Any help welcome.

Thank you in advance

My experience with these Mercedes power windows indicates that 90% of the problems are in the switch. Especially when you get alternate side problems front and rear. Either take them apart and clean the contacts or buy another switch.

Just a update tried new window switches and they did not work.

This is very frustrating, anyone have a wire diagram for the rear door switches the numbered plugs?

How do you roll the windows down by bypassing the switches? I have problems with all of mine and I just need to get some air! I have the drivers door panel off, and I see the wires, but I dont know how to use them to trigger the window moter. I would reaaly appreciate any help, I drive an hour to work everyday and it is litteraly killing me.

You should have two wires, you must supply (-) negative to one wire and (+) positive to the other in order to actuate the motors. Reversing the order (polarity) will make it go up or down.

Looking at the diagram it appears this is supplement 3 for the early window motors that used 3 connections which were used from August 1965 up to May 1969. I assume you need the later one which used 2 connections. That should be shown in the "regular" wiring diagram. I can send it to you tonight or if you have the Big Blue Book, Service Manual Passenger Cars starting 1968, Series 108-109-111-113, Maintenance, Tuning, Unit Replacement it is in there.

ISSUE SOLVED!

Thank you Baybear, it was the connection in one of the front fuses that was broken inside the fuse box.

After a continuity check the fuse was ok, and the wire going forward was ok, but the connection between the wire and fuse holder was not.

What a mission just glad it is working

Thank you again for all the help
