Question New menmber

Hi I'm new to the forum, my name is Terry and I recently purchased a 1988 560SL that has been sitting for 10 years. I have pulled the fuel tank and boiled it out, replaced both fuel pumps, filter and cleaned out the fuel lines. I installed another filter before the fuel distributer to catch anything that may come thru the lines. I have replace the plug wires and the fuel distributer, cleaned all the injectors and tested them. The engines has 170psi compression on all cylinders. It cranks right up and ran rough until I replaced the wires and now it idles fine but the moment I try to step on the throttle the engine dies. The throttle operates the linkage and opens the large air valve in front of the fuel distributer. It will sputter before it dies completely. Any ideas

Terry, welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about your problem and wish I could offer you some assistance but I'm a compression ignition junkie.

Perhaps it's a mixture/pressure problem.
Have you made any adjustments to the fuel injection control pressure controlled in part by the EHA servo (Electro-Hydraulic Actuator) or the duty cycle controlled by the CIS-E mixture control?

You may experience some waiting as it is the last summer holiday weekend, but before long, one of the R107 chassis guys should be along to help you!

Cheers

We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Nature's inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide...I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that.
