I believe you have a w116 chassis sedan. Correct?
I also believe that you have Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection, based on my knowledge that the r107 450sl had that style injection. D-Jetronic's low fuel pressure made vapor lock or lean hot starts a common problem. I usually turn the key a few times to let the fuel pump run several times cycling cool fuel from the tank to the fuel rails, sending hot fuel back to the tank. I would also rev the engine once the car is started to hopefully flush the vapor through the injectors more quickly,
You may also have a similar "known issue" that the 1975 450sl came with that made the hot starts even worse, catalytic converters on the exhaust manifolds. These should be replaced with normal exhaust manifolds (and a catalytic converter in place of the resonator or front muffler). I am not sure if the w116 chassis had this same issue as the r107.
This hot start issue is very commonly discussed for the 107 chassis 1972-1975 SL cars.
My dream car is a classic sporty five speed (stick+overdrive) convertible that seats five. If, you want 70's-80's Mercedes tuner wheels, let me know.
